The Riviera Maya Gang: Cash, Crime, Killing
This one takes some beating, in terms of the audacity of the scam. A large scale plan to skim the credit card details from tourists by planting the skimmers inside the ATM’s and then supplying the machines to tourist hotels and banks. This investigation led by Will Jordan from the OCCRP (Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project) tells the tale, and our motion graphics (paying homage to Grand Theft Auto, perhaps) lends some interesting styling and animation to the mix. Cricket’s Match Fixers
Over 18 months of investigations, Medioto worked with Aljazeera’s Investigative Unit and helped reveal how criminal gangs bribe players and officials to fix matches and parts of matches – and make millions from betting on guaranteed outcomes. The initial inspiration for the designs came from Bollywood posters and obviously some of the title text echo the old fashioned scoreboards on the cricket ground. Apart from the obvious title-card, we built profile animations, explainers for the uninitiated cricket fans, test match chapter headings, phone call animations, document/newspaper sequences and the players and authorities ‘right of reply’. There’s a montage below and
