Cricket’s Match Fixers

Over 18 months of investigations, Medioto worked with Aljazeera’s Investigative Unit and helped reveal how criminal gangs bribe players and officials to fix matches and parts of matches – and make millions from betting on guaranteed outcomes. The initial inspiration for the designs came from Bollywood posters and obviously some of the title text echo the old fashioned scoreboards on the cricket ground. Apart from the obvious title-card, we built profile animations, explainers for the uninitiated cricket fans, test match chapter headings, phone call animations, document/newspaper sequences and the players and authorities ‘right of reply’. There’s a montage below and

The Oligarchs

Using styling borrowed from agitprop posters from Soviet Russia, Medioto helped Aljazeera’s Investigative Unit unravel a plot hatched by powerful Eastern European oligarchs to make millions of dollars from a crooked deal involving a web of offshore companies and international lawyers to raid US$160 million dollars under the noses of the authorities. The Oligarchs include an exiled gas billionaire guarded by Russian special forces, a Moscow property magnate and an Olympic show jumper on the run from Ukrainian authorities. Throughout these deliberately murky, opaque dealings our motion graphics hopefully simpilfy the processes involved in money laundering and the formation of

Football’s Wall of Silence – Al Jazeera Investigations & C4 Dispatches
