Al Jazeera investigates the islands of Maldives and finds that behind the idyllic destination that attracts so many honeymooners lies endemic corruption. Evidence of this dark side was uncovered on 10GB of data extracted from the former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s mobile phone. Our motion graphics were used throughout to detail the SMS conversations, explain how the embezzling works, provide profiles of our main characters and generally to add some stylish welding of the storyline. Printed panels, cue cards, animated chapter stings, titles, bumpers & animated namestraps formed our contribution to the big C4 debate on the eve of the EU Referendum with Paxo. Everything was built using very simple elements so as to keep the designs quite abstract and unbiased. Moving arrows, UK outlines, stars, stripes and printed dot textures were overlaid allowing multiple colours and patterns to emerge and provide a quite vibrant backing for the nuances of the debate to occur. In a new investigation by the Al Jazeera Investigates team, Liam Collins, a retired Great British Athlete, spent six months undercover investigating the murky world of performance-enhancing drugs – what athletes refer to as “the dark side”. The motion graphics formed an integral part of the production enabling the team to feature sports action which was painted by hand and also ‘sporting trading cards’ were created to highlight the alleged athletes named in the film.
