The Blitz: Britain on Fire

The Blitz: Britain on Fire for C5 retells the horror of the May Blitz of Liverpool in 1941, when the Luftwaffe returned to the skies of the city night after night to drop tons of explosives and incendiary bombs. The series looks at the stories of some of the city’s inhabitants over this period and our job was to provide some local geography connecting the Liverpool streets to these people. By piecing together original maps from the late 30’s we were able to create a three dimensional environment where we could pin individuals to the streets whilst in the skies

After a three-year sting, Medioto worked with Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit to help reveal how Australia’s right wing, ‘One Nation’ party goes in search of funding from the US gun lobby in return for helping relax Australian strict gun laws. Secret filming also unveils the tricks & techniques, the National Rifle Association uses to handles public opinion and smear the victims after deadly gun attacks. Dispatches – Britain’s Knife Crisis

Subtitled, ‘Young, Armed & Dangerous’, this programme followed former MET Comissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe as he investigated the alarming rise in knife crime. Maya applied some interesting camera angles to project the real statistics in the sky above an urban landscape whilst ink splashes aggressively eat into the concrete buildings. Generation Hate

Al Jazeera’s investigative team managed to infiltrate a Neo Nazi organisation which hold some radical ideas including the re-migration of all muslims in Europe. The team finds more regular links to thuggish behaviour and more worryingly strong links to Marine Le Pen’s National Front party. Cricket’s Match Fixers – The Munawar Files

Al Jazeera’s investigators have obtained telephone recordings that show Aneel Munawar ringing in details of fixes in 15 international matches to a notorious Indian bookmaker often featuring big named players from England, Australia & Pakistan. The graphics played an integral part in showing the different profiles in the match-fixing and their links to Munawar; the details of audio phone conversations and explainers showing how the spot-fixing occurs (see below). Panorama – Syria’s Chemical War

Working with the BBC Panorama team we plotted at least 177 Syrian Chemical attacks on our map sequences; subdividing them into years, land or air attacks, different poisons and those corroborated by more than one official source. The end result was projected onto a large studio screen for pieces to camera. This was a joint BBC Panorama & BBC Arabic programme and therefore all the graphics were also supplied with their Arabic translations.

Panorama – Hacked: Smart Home Devices

Smart devices and the latest technological gadgets give us remote control of our homes and our cars – but how safe are they? Reporter Fiona Phillips investigates… To help highlight the nature of the smart homes vulnerabilities we built a model of the owners house and textured it so it appeared as a normal flat illustration. We could populate the rooms with animated characters and numerous smart devices all transmitting data awaiting capture from the hacker.
